The Charm of Ceramic Tiles

The Charm of Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles have been used for several thousand years to adorn floors and walls throughout history. Available in a huge range of colours, sizes and styles; with an almost endless variety to choose from; it’s no surprise that they’re still very popular today. So why should you decide on them?

Widely used in kitchens and bathrooms; providing a completely natural feel, these tiles have an ability to withstand stains, odours, allergens or bacteria and are a popular choice when considering bathroom and toilet floors; being easy to clean as well as hygienic and beneficial for allergy sufferers. They are eco-friendly, as they are made from naturally occurring materials.

Ceramic tiles also cost less than granite, marble, and other high-end finishes, and their impact is just as stunning. In fact, they can even mimic other materials, such as wood or marble, for a fraction of the price. Made from brown, red or white clay, they come in a wide variety of effects and surface textures, from rustic to contemporary.

As with porcelain tiles, there are trends and developments in ceramic tile design. A popular one at present is the rectified edge tile, where the sides of each tile are precisely diamond wet cut to exact dimensions, at a 90-degree angle. This means that, when the tiles are laid, the result is a clean, symmetrical look, and very fine grout lines of 2mm can be used. Simple, but very effective.

Ceramic tiles are generally less expensive than porcelain, which means that your budget – and the area you are able to tile – could go further. With so much choice available, finding patterns and colours that complement each other becomes much easier, and can inspire some really imaginative interior design schemes. Tiles have a tactile as well as a visual impact, so there really is nothing like seeing them for real in our showroom…

Whatever the scale of your project, we are always on hand to give advice, and you are very welcome to take samples of tiles to see how they look at home. Colours and glazes can change in different lights, and can be hard to remember outside the showroom.
